So this gear came in from CDJapan a day or two ago.
Firstly, a scoresheet! Keyboard score *AND* bass tabs. I’m gonna be busy for a while 😀
Next, Fullmetal Alchemist OP Album – again by YUI. Awesome album, came with a whole bunch of stickers too! I couldn’t get the limited edition with the DVD though.. 😦
Still, I got the first print, so can’t complain. Definitely an awesome single – get it. Now.
Additionally, on top – Boku wa mada Nanimo Shiranai [Album] by Ishikawa Chiaki. It’s areally nice album, lots of Ballad-type stuff that she does fantastically – Very chilling voice in some songs though, but the vocals are clear, and the instrumentals are amazing in some tracks. (My speakers have been getting a hell of a workout)
Last but not Least:
Check This Out!! by Jabberloop – Awesome jazz group, It’s abit fast for my liking, but definitely a nice club Jazz album to listen to.
Another Side of Agenda by Re-Trick – Jazz trio, more slow jazz and acid Jazz – The Live CD, too. Awesome jazz trio containing my favourite instruments – Bass guitar and Piano.
Definitely worth checking out – I’ll upload some tracks at some stage for you guys to listen to.
Anyway, back to study.
Well, whilst not as exciting as my previous post, it turns out I don’t have swine flu, AKA H1N1. (or maybe I should word that the other way round)
It turns out it’s just the normal flu, most likely Influenza B, which seems to just have raped my throat with a nasty cock erm… cough. Whilst my body aches like hell in general and I’ve been confined to bed most of today, it isn’t as bad as it could be, which is good. I’ll be at work tomorrow, and back to being a productive assist to society.
Plenty of warm water, fluids, etc and I should be back up to fighting spirits in no time. On that note, I’m a little behind on anime and figure reviews, aren’t I? I should really post about my new Haruhi… 😛 amongst other new things. Overall, life should be pretty good. I may have a new job soon, too!
As well as that, the Sniper Vs Spy update seems to have attracted a whole bunch of new players with the special that they held over that weekend, too. Plenty of free frags to be had.
Anyhow, I’ll post about these things more in full later on. For now, back to resting.
So… lugging this crap home yesterday… and here is the process…
So, after much fiddling it’s all good. I have it running!
As for performance, here’s a few numbers so far. (I was too lazy to take screenshots). Overall, it’s very solid. Much better than my 4850 – all games were played at maximum detail, anti-aliasing and AF enabled in-game. CCC settings were set to default, with advanced on Catalyst AI.
Resolution used was 1920×1200
The temperatures of the card were quite impressive – peaking at around 75 degrees, idling at 45. Bear in mind current ambient temp is around 15 degrees though. The games tested aren’t too many – but these are the main ones I have installed at the moment, and the ones that I tested. FRAPS + in game FPS meters were used.
As for image quality, it’s good. The key thing I notice at the resolution I play at over the 4850 is the lack of choppiness. The 4850 would stutter every here and again. The 90? Pumps out pretty damn solidly.
Anyhow, here’s some screenies of TF2 and CoD. Not too sure where my GRID ones went.
Overall, I would definitely reccomend this purchase to anyone in need of an upgrade. It’s solid, it runs well. It’s still using beta drivers, which means there’s still performance to be had, and for around 400AUD, getting one in crossfire later on is definitely a performance option for the high-end market.
For your average joe, however – stick to the 4870. $100 cheaper. I would really only reccomend this to those needing a good future-proof upgrade, or cutting edge performance. If you have a 4870, GTX260, or similar – don’t bother. Overclock your card, you’ll probably get better results. 😛
Coming tomorrow, in fact. If you’re after some hardware in review – I’ll be testing this little baby all weekend.
Currently aiming for probably 16k+ in 3dmark, hopefully 11k in Vantage. We’ll see, I suppose. 😛
So, this gear burned a rather large hole in the wallet – however, totally worth it.
For those who may have noticed in previous pics, I had a set of Logitech G51 speakers. Brilliant for a Bang-for-buck solution, however, I found it very lacking in terms of clarity. Which led me on a search, finally putting me where I am now.
For those who didn’t catch drift from the GIANT WORD ON TEH BOX.. I now have a set of Aktimate Mini powered speakers – most of the components come from Creek Audio, and EPOZ (The Australian Division of Epos, a well known hi-fi gear company.) Both companies are renowned for having extremely high-quality, award winning audio equipment – damn, and now I know why.
So, after setting these pretties up I started testing em out.
Here are the tracks I’ve played on them so far, and the verdicts that came with them.
The song is largely classical piano by Yoko Kanno, with Illaria providing a very solitary vocal line. The Aktimates’ reproduced this track exceptionally. The piano was crisp and clear, the bass mid-song was reproduced very cleanly, many times better than the blurred muffling that the old G51 Subwoofer gave me. Vocals were very pronounced, with a warm tone to it – overall… holy shit.
It’s very… Guitary. With Yui singing on top. Kinda like acoustic guitar with drums. I don’t know who else does this kinda thing. Anyway – bass guitar was very clean, along with the bass – very audible, but not overwhelming. The lyrics came through strongly, and the guitars going off in the background sounded as-if they were mid-stage. Some were a little too distant to hear properly though – weather that was a deliberate part of the song or not, I don’t know. Nonetheless – the only qualm here is that I’m used to much louder bass- which isn’t too bad hearing bass as opposed to feeling it.
Now for the Bassy Techno! It’s not as pounding. But still very pronounced bass. Much clearer, more.. “proper” I’d imagine. Extremely crisp overall. The buzz effects were a little odd though. Probably not meant to be that clear in the first place.
From ARIA the animation, the track is comprised of mainly Acoustic Guitar and Vocal – 2 Acoustic guitars, in fact. Very similar to Summer Song, but slower. Bass drum was abit stronger in this one – as it should be. Both guitars and melodic vocals in this track come through much clearer than on my ATH-AD-400 Headphones or from the old G51 set. Much more pleasant to listen to.
Another more electronic song – But with more focus on the treble range. The wider soundstage of the Aktimates make the vocals in this sound alot better than on any other medium I’ve listened to them on. (Not saying that much, considering its already enhanced vocal). There is also alot of bass in the track, a solid beating bassline – much cleaner than before. Think of a hit as opposed to a walloping flop of bass. This is the most rewarding aspect IMO of the new kit – the cleaner bass makes my music much more enjoyable. It’s not gone, you just can’t feel the phat doof anymore. You can still hear it, however. 🙂
All up, the only thing I really miss from the old set would be the fully siq floor sub. Which isn’t that hard to miss anyway. I’ve already found a new footrest. 😛 The speakers have a wider soundstage, much more clarity, although not affordable still a definte must-have.
Oh, it has a built-in iPod dock and comes with a remote.
More likely than you think. It was pretty damn annoying to put together but… it looks pretty good in the end. That and eventually I intend on having a 3rd 24″ LCD here. 😀 .
So It’s a little narrow, but eh. Works pretty well for all my needs. and I have space to put figs now. 😀
Anyhow, back to watching True Tears for me. (Catching up on old stuff). Sadly, I should be at work – however, I’m coughing up bits of crap everywhere and have a gigantic headache. I highly doubt I can work in my current state.
Sometimes I just absolutely hate my immune system. With a very strong passion. Ahh well, what can you do. Not like you can go in there yourself and fight it… (If only you could though, cause that would be awesome.)
Anyhow, back to popping meds again for me.
