So this gear came in from CDJapan a day or two ago.

Firstly, a scoresheet! Keyboard score *AND* bass tabs. I’m gonna be busy for a while πŸ˜€

Next, Fullmetal Alchemist OP Album – again by YUI. Awesome album, came with a whole bunch of stickers too! I couldn’t get the limited edition with the DVD though.. 😦

Still, I got the first print, so can’t complain. Definitely an awesome single – get it. Now.

Additionally, on top – Boku wa mada Nanimo Shiranai [Album] by Ishikawa Chiaki. It’s areally nice album, lots of Ballad-type stuff that she does fantastically – Very chilling voice in some songs though, but the vocals are clear, and the instrumentals are amazing in some tracks. (My speakers have been getting a hell of a workout)

Last but not Least:

Check This Out!! by Jabberloop – Awesome jazz group, It’s abit fast for my liking, but definitely a nice club Jazz album to listen to.

Another Side of Agenda by Re-TrickΒ  – Jazz trio, more slow jazz and acid Jazz – The Live CD, too. Awesome jazz trio containing my favourite instruments – Bass guitar and Piano.

Definitely worth checking out – I’ll upload some tracks at some stage for you guys to listen to.

Anyway, back to study.

So, Once again thanks to Jpopsuki, I find myself once again downloading Jpop, and I came across this:

I must say I really do like her quite abit. She’s like a Japanese Avril Lavigne, but better. With happier songs, and less emo overtones. And they’re definitely not generic either.

Anyone who’s into J-rock or J-pop should definitely get their hands on the album. It’s fun, bouncy, and pretty rockin’ without being blow-your-ears-out heavy.

The album is called “Gothic Melting Ice Cream’s Darkness ‘Nightmare'”… which is already pretty awesome sounding. (Even if it makes you go “uh… what?”) There’s a few familiar tunes in the album as well, such as PAPERMOON and Pray – Soul Eater and Gintama opening themes.

As it turns out she is quite popular too, so judging by that she can’t be bad, right? Anyhow, check it out.

So, I picked up this album off Jpopsuki a few days ago – I did have my reservations on it being abit more of the same, but pleasantly suprised it was much more upbeat than the previous albums, abit faster and much more variety in the instrumentation. (Even if it is through the same, electro-synth)

Overall, it’s a nice song. Kinda uplifting, too. And fun to sing to… so many harmonies you can do with it >_<
It does have an air of “enjoy life” to it, and is very VERY upbeat. The music video has some really trippy bits, too. With the hair and everything.

The song opens similarly to Perfect Star, Perfect Style – very light, then gets abit more beaty. Definitely a reccomended if you like any sort of electronica, or are a fan of Jpop. (It’s not stupidly fast, too!)

Anyhow, enjoy! Reijin out.

Audiophilia and Aktimates – A Mini Review April 4, 2009

Hurray, new stuff! This time, a new set of Aktimate Mini’s which I’ve been planning on buying for quite some time now. And now I have them! They sound nothing short of amazing – but anyway, that’s not that great a description. Read more for a review. πŸ˜›

They make my Audio Technica gear look abit wimpy, too... πŸ˜›

So, this gear burned a rather large hole in the wallet – however, totally worth it.
For those who may have noticed in previous pics, I had a set of Logitech G51 speakers. Brilliant for a Bang-for-buck solution, however, I found it very lacking in terms of clarity. Which led me on a search, finally putting me where I am now.

For those who didn’t catch drift from the GIANT WORD ON TEH BOX.. I now have a set of Aktimate Mini powered speakers – most of the components come from Creek Audio, and EPOZ (The Australian Division of Epos, a well known hi-fi gear company.) Both companies are renowned for having extremely high-quality, award winning audio equipment – damn, and now I know why.

So, after setting these pretties up I started testing em out.

Here are the tracks I’ve played on them so far, and the verdicts that came with them.

  • Illaria Graziano – I do [GITS Soundtrack]

The song is largely classical piano by Yoko Kanno, with Illaria providing a very solitary vocal line. The Aktimates’ reproduced this track exceptionally. The piano was crisp and clear, the bass mid-song was reproduced very cleanly, many times better than the blurred muffling that the old G51 Subwoofer gave me. Vocals were very pronounced, with a warm tone to it – overall… holy shit.

  • Yui – Summer Song

It’s very… Guitary. With Yui singing on top. Kinda like acoustic guitar with drums. I don’t know who else does this kinda thing. Anyway – bass guitar was very clean, along with the bass – very audible, but not overwhelming. The lyrics came through strongly, and the guitars going off in the background sounded as-if they were mid-stage. Some were a little too distant to hear properly though – weather that was a deliberate part of the song or not, I don’t know. Nonetheless – the only qualm here is that I’m used to much louder bass- which isn’t too bad hearing bass as opposed to feeling it.

  • Lucky Star Re-Mix002- Ryosuke Nakanishi a.k.a. r-midwest – Motteke! Sailor Fuku Electro Otome Chikku mix

Now for the Bassy Techno! It’s not as pounding. But still very pronounced bass. Much clearer, more.. “proper” I’d imagine. Extremely crisp overall. The buzz effects were a little odd though. Probably not meant to be that clear in the first place.

  • ROUND TABLE featuring Nino – Rainbow

From ARIA the animation, the track is comprised of mainly Acoustic Guitar and Vocal – 2 Acoustic guitars, in fact. Very similar to Summer Song, but slower. Bass drum was abit stronger in this one – as it should be. Both guitars and melodic vocals in this track come through much clearer than on my ATH-AD-400 Headphones or from the old G51 set. Much more pleasant to listen to.

  • Perfume – γƒγ‚šγƒΌγƒ•γ‚§γ‚―γƒˆγ‚Ήγ‚ΏγƒΌγƒ»γƒγ‚šγƒΌγƒ•γ‚§γ‚―γƒˆγ‚Ήγ‚Ώγ‚€γƒ« (Perfect Star, Perfect Style)

Another more electronic song – But with more focus on the treble range. The wider soundstage of the Aktimates make the vocals in this sound alot better than on any other medium I’ve listened to them on. (Not saying that much, considering its already enhanced vocal). There is also alot of bass in the track, a solid beating bassline – much cleaner than before. Think of a hit as opposed to a walloping flop of bass. This is the most rewarding aspect IMO of the new kit – the cleaner bass makes my music much more enjoyable. It’s not gone, you just can’t feel the phat doof anymore. You can still hear it, however. πŸ™‚

All up, the only thing I really miss from the old set would be the fully siq floor sub. Which isn’t that hard to miss anyway. I’ve already found a new footrest. πŸ˜› The speakers have a wider soundstage, much more clarity, although not affordable still a definte must-have.

Oh, it has a built-in iPod dock and comes with a remote.

So, I’m half intent to sing a song tonight. That and I’ve been up for about 8 hours playing Valkyria Chronicles. Sweet lord, it’s an awesome game.

Rin evidently thinks this is awesome. You should too.

Rin evidently thinks this is awesome. You should too.

That and I’ve somehow warped “Favourite things” into my own little gamer edition…

Rockband, Team Fortress and Taiko Tatsujin,

Warcraft Expansions, photographing figures,

My pc parts overclocked before spring..

These are a few of my favourite things.

Remind me not to stay up ’till 5 in the morning next time. My creative “flair” usually turns out to be creative failure around now. πŸ˜› On that note, I don’t play Taiko Tatsujin (Or is it Taiko no tatsujin) as much as I’d like to. Only like… once when I can get my hands on my DS. Because my brother always takes it. The little crap.

That aside, perhaps I’ll finish that song one day, to be some kind of geeky gamer/otaku anthem, who knows. For now, I’ll just go back to enjoying playing Valkyria and practicing Cammy’s Ultra combo.
